Romney Place is located in the upper Snake River Valley of southeast Idaho, directly west of the Teton mountains, and Yellowstone National Park. Located on 8 acres of land surrounded by views of the Big Hole, Tetons, the Lost River Range and Sawtooth, the Centennial, this scenic location affords the perfect retreat for artistic and creative people. The property includes an art studio and gallery, a 3 acre maize of labyrinths, garden suite B&B, pickle ball court, demonstration gardens, walking paths, ponds, decorative sculptures, camping and campfire areas, an 1890's log cabin and more.
The homestead was established in 1887 by Hyrum Dilley, and has undergone over a century of additions, improvements, and even survived the flood when the Teton Dam failed in 1976. Many people were born here and many families established memories of this place. In 1991, Ben and Kaye Romney acquired the homestead property, eventually adding 6 additional acres of expanded landscapes. Today we call it "Romney Place," as a home for our own large family, and as a gathering place for visitors.
The Romney Place Gallery currently houses many selected works of artist Mary Lou Stone Romney. Mary Lou was born in St Anthony Idaho, just a short distance from Romney Place. She became nationally recognized as an emerging artist in the 1980's and 90's. Many of her works are in public and private collections across the United States. Her educational materials and many of her hundreds of art pieces are archived at the Romney Place Studio, where art educators and serious artists can retreat and study her work. The Romney Place Gallery is also a launching place for newly emerging artists, displaying their work and offering their creations for public sale. Artist retreats and workshops are scheduled throughout the summer months. Gallery hours are by appointment. [email protected]
